Bodø

Bodø
Bodø is a city on the north-west coast of Norway that often gets overlooked for more famous destinations like Oslo or Bergen. But this gateway to the Lofoten Islands has plenty to offer on its own.
Located just north of the Arctic Circle, Bodø delivers on stunning natural scenery with dramatic mountains and coastal views. The city is famous for the Saltstraumen, the world's strongest tidal current where water rushes through a narrow strait at up to 20 knots. It's quite the sight to witness this natural phenomenon.
The area has a rich Viking history, and you can learn about it at the Nordland Museum in the city center. Bodø was almost completely destroyed during World War II, so most of the architecture is modern, giving the city a contemporary feel despite its ancient roots.
One of Bodø's most unique features is the midnight sun during summer, when the sun doesn't set for weeks. In winter, it's one of the best places to catch the Northern Lights dancing across the sky.
The locals are known for their friendliness and strong connection to the sea. Fishing has always been central to life here, and you can taste the amazing seafood in many restaurants around town. For a small city, Bodø has a surprisingly vibrant cultural scene with regular music festivals and events throughout the year.
