Königssee

Königssee
Königssee, located in the Berchtesgaden National Park in Bavaria, is often referred to as Germany's cleanest and most beautiful alpine lake. The emerald-green water mirrors the surrounding steep mountain walls, creating a fjord-like landscape that looks straight out of a fairytale.
What makes Königssee special is its pristine environment. Since 1909, only electric boats, rowing and paddle boats are allowed on the lake to preserve its crystal-clear water. The famous boat trip across the lake includes a stop where boatmen demonstrate the remarkable echo by playing a trumpet toward the rock faces.
St. Bartholomä, a picturesque red-domed church on the western shore, stands as one of the most photographed spots in Bavaria. Beyond this iconic church, visitors can find the Obersee, a smaller but equally stunning lake just a short hike away.
The area around Königssee has a rich history dating back to the 12th century when it served as a royal hunting ground. Today, it attracts nature lovers year-round with its dramatic scenery and alpine wildlife including rare birds, deer, and even alpine ibex.
The nearby town of Berchtesgaden offers a glimpse into Bavarian culture with traditional restaurants serving local specialties like Obazda cheese spread and Weisswurst sausages.
