Lefkada

Lefkada
Lefkada is one of those Greek islands that somehow manages to stay under the radar despite having some of the most stunning beaches in the Mediterranean. Connected to mainland Greece by a small bridge, it offers the perfect balance of accessibility and island seclusion.
The west coast of Lefkada is famous for its dramatic white cliffs and turquoise waters. Porto Katsiki and Egremni beaches regularly make appearances on 'Best Beaches in the World' lists, with their striking contrast between white limestone cliffs and deep blue waters. The eastern side offers calmer waters, perfect for families and those looking for more relaxed beach days.
Lefkada Town, with its colorful buildings and earthquake-resistant architecture (a necessity after the devastating 1953 earthquake), has a distinct character compared to other Greek island capitals. The buildings are constructed with wood frames and metal sheets, giving the town a unique appearance that you won't find elsewhere in Greece.
The island has a rich musical tradition and is believed to be the birthplace of the poet Sappho. Every summer, the International Folklore Festival brings together dancers and musicians from around the world, filling the streets with color and rhythm.
For food lovers, Lefkada offers exceptional local products, particularly its olive oil and wine from the Vertzamo grape variety, which is native to the island.
