Mürren

Mürren
Mürren is a small mountain village in the Bernese Oberland region of Switzerland, sitting at an altitude of 1,638 meters (5,374 feet) above sea level. This car-free village offers stunning panoramic views of the famous Alpine peaks including the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau.
The village has a rich history tied to tourism and skiing. It's known as the birthplace of Alpine skiing competitions, with the first slalom race held here in 1922. During winter, Mürren transforms into a ski paradise with over 50 kilometers of slopes. In summer, it becomes a hiking haven with trails that wind through flowery meadows and mountain paths.
What makes Mürren special is its authentic Swiss charm that has been preserved over the years. The wooden chalets with their decorated balconies and flower boxes create a picture-perfect setting. The village is only accessible by cable car or mountain railway from the valley below, which adds to its secluded and peaceful atmosphere.
For James Bond fans, Mürren has an interesting claim to fame - the revolving restaurant Piz Gloria on the Schilthorn peak above the village was featured in the 1969 film 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service'. The views from up there on a clear day extend as far as Mont Blanc and the Black Forest.
