Una National Park

Una National Park
Una National Park is one of those spectacular places in Bosnia and Herzegovina that doesn't get enough attention on the global tourism stage. Located in the northwestern part of the country along the border with Croatia, this natural wonderland covers around 198 square kilometers of pristine wilderness.
The park is named after the Una River, which winds through its territory with crystal clear waters in mesmerizing shades of blue and green. The Una is renowned for its cascades and waterfalls, with Štrbački Buk and Martin Brod waterfall systems being some of the most impressive natural features you'll find in the Balkans.
What makes this place truly special is the untouched nature and biodiversity. The park houses diverse ecosystems with over 170 plant species and numerous wildlife, including bears, wolves, and rare bird species. The traditional villages scattered throughout the area give visitors a glimpse into the authentic Bosnian rural way of life that has remained largely unchanged for generations.
The area has historical significance too, with medieval fortresses and Ottoman-era structures dotting the landscape. During summer, locals and tourists come to enjoy rafting on the Una River, which hosts international rafting competitions. The river's name comes from the Latin word 'una', meaning 'the one', perfectly capturing its unique beauty that stands out even in a country full of natural wonders.
